Free AdviceThe Citizens Advice services provide free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone one a wide range of issues, including: debt; housing; employment; relationship breakdown; employment; health and community care; and benefits. It also works to improve the policies and practices that affect all our lives.
All Bureaux are independent charities and receive no funding from central government. About half of Bureaux funding comes from local government, with another significant funder being the Legal Services Commission. Of its 26,000 employees in England and Wales, some 20,000 are trained volunteers.
The four CABs of Cambridgeshire are located in Cambridge, Ely, Fenland and Huntingdonshire. Last year, we dealt with around 8,000 enquiries each month (or 96,000 over the year), and the demand for our services is increasing.
Together, the Cambridgeshire CABs employ nearly 200 people, of whom 150 are volunteers, who undergo a rigorous professional training programme for between 6 and 9 months before they are qualified to give advice to clients.
